Do not worry, if you had some sort of problem with your server or host for only a day there is absolutely nothing to be worried about, however, if you have your web page is down for two or more weeks then you should know that it will affect your rankings. Google will certainly not lower your rankings because of a day or two down, however if your site ends up down for longer periods of time Google will understand that it is somehow not reliable, and will automatically lower its ranking. Google will also be able to keep track of your stats and will also know if you are usually down or not. The more your web page goes down the lower your rankings will be in the long run.
It is also important to keep an eye out for other people, because if Googlebot delivers a similar message to several different people (such as a message that your page is down) then do not worry, Googlebot is the one having some trouble. Although Googlebot is quite reliable, failures and issues may happen even though they are quite rare). In case you know your other web developer fellows are getting the same message then do not worry it is probably a problem on Googlebot’s end. However, you should always try to make sure that you choose the right web host for your website that provides steady and reliable service.
