Is your office environmentally friendly? Greening your office is a fantastic way to save money. Its also a good way to make your own personal contribution to improving the environment. Here are a few easy ways to green your office.
1. Plants Plants help clean the air in your office. In fact, having a spider plant is an exceptional way to reduce air pollution in your office space. It also adds a nice natural element to your space, making it feel more comfortable.
2. Power strips Power strips are long strips with multiple outlets in them. They plug into the wall and make it easier to use multiple devices in one area. The advantage to plugging all of your devices into a power strip is that you can turn them all off. Power strips always have an off/on switch. You can turn the switch off when youre not in the office. This stops any power drain and saves energy.
3. LED lights Youre probably familiar with CFL lights or Compact Fluorescent Lights. Theyre great because they use less energy and they last much longer than a traditional incandescent. However, they also contain a small amount of mercury. That means that disposing of the lights is risky and can be a challenge because many recycling centers cant take them. LED lights are beginning to come down in price. They last for years and years and they use much less energy than CFL lights.
4. Recycle It is so simple to do and yet many people still dont do it. Instead of throwing away paper, reuse it and recycle it.
5. Digital Buy digital books instead of paper books. Sell digital products instead of printed products. And if you subscribe to magazines, see if the magazine is available digitally. Many magazines are now available online. You still have to subscribe but you dont have to wait for the mail carrier to deliver them.
6. Buy used and remanufactured When buying equipment and supplies for your office, buy recycled, reused and remanufactured. For example, buy recycled paper products. Buy remanufactured electronics. And consider buying used furniture to furnish your office.
7. Turn things off! Another simple way to green your office is to turn equipment off when youre not using it. When you leave the room, turn off the lights, turn off your computer and turn off your printer.
8. Heating and cooling In addition to using a programmable thermostat that controls the temperature when youre away, also consider using the energy of the sun to warm your space in the winter. Thermal window treatments will help keep your space cool in the summer.
These are all simple and easy ways to green your office. If you implement just one tactic per month youll see a noticeable difference in your energy bill by the end of the year. You may also feel great about your contribution too.
